A torrent-weaver is a Breathless magic user who can emit a torrent of sound capable of affecting matter. There are three types of torrents, and thus three types of torrent-weavers.
Blade-Weaver
A blade-weaver’s torrent springs from their longest finger. Though its range is short, dissipating after a few inches, its edge is as fine as a scalpel’s and strong enough to carve through solid materials (i.e., flesh, bone, stone) with precision. Blade-weavers (known as Blades) serve as guards, surgeons, stone masons, and sculptors.
Hammer-Weaver
A hammer-weaver’s torrent, which fires from their knuckles, is as wide and blunt as a fist. What it lacks in precision, it makes up for in brute strength: with a single blow, a hammer-weaver (Hammer for short) can smash a boulder or snap a bone within its half a fathom (3 foot) range. They serve as fisherman, guards, and stone masons.
Spear-Weaver
A spear-weaver’s torrent flows from their open palm when their webbed fingers are splayed. It is the widest and least concentrated, but with a range of 5 fathoms (30 feet), it has the furthest reach. While they often serve as fishermen and guards, using their ability to stun fish and approaching enemies, spear-weavers (aka Spears, as you might have guessed) also play a critical role in keeping their city clean.
If they apply the torrent just right, they can move seawater and generate an artificial current. These spear-currents flow through Ristaborg’s exhaust tunnels, bringing fresh water to its many chambers and carrying its waste to the shallow plateau above the city.
