Echoes Sneak Peek: Grow-Weavers
A grow-weaver is a Breathless (aquatic people in Echoes) magic user who stimulates life’s natural processes with their voice. Their abilities are utilized for two purposes: growth and regrowth.
Growth
Most grow-weavers direct their magic toward growing organisms used for food and materials. They spend their days coaxing life to grow in the cold, dark, undersea city of Ristaborg. Without their magic-infused voices, there would be no kelp in the vertical gardens, no glow-coral in the tunnels, no scallops or cuttlefish or cod in the nursery.
A grow-weaver’s song is a symbol of resilience. A reminder that the Breathless are surviving in the deep, against all odds.
Re-Growth
A small population of grow-weavers are powerful enough to accelerate the natural healing process in other Breathless. They spend their days in the halls of Vitality Drift (Ristaborg’s hospital), healing the injured with their voice.
But even the strongest grow-weaver cannot encourage regrowth beyond what the body will do on its own (e.g., they can help a fractured bone heal, but they cannot grow a new bone). And because Breathless bodies are complex, any level of healing requires an enormous amount of energy and focus.
Grow-weavers who serve in this capacity are thus directed to reserve their magic for life-threatening cases.
